Ozioma Okonkwo Cleared of False Defilement Allegations in Enugu as Police Charge Wife with Defamation

The Enugu State Police Command has exonerated Mr Ozioma Okonkwo, who was accused by his wife of defiling their two young daughters, after medical examinations disproved the claims.

His wife, Mrs Chisom Okonkwo, has now been charged with defamation and false reporting, according to an official charge sheet seen by Newsmakerslive.org.

Mr Okonkwo, a resident of Enugu originally from Imo State, was arrested on October 25 after his wife alleged he had assaulted their daughters, aged two and five.

The children were immediately placed in protective custody while investigators initiated medical and forensic assessments.

Results of the examinations, according to police sources, showed no evidence of sexual assault, leading to Mr Okonkwo’s unconditional release.

In the charge sheet dated October 29, 2025 and issued by the Enugu State Commissioner of Police, Mrs Chisom Okonkwo was accused of “knowingly giving false information to the police that her husband had defiled their two daughters, which was later found to be untrue.”

The document cites offences under Section 125 of the Criminal Code, Cap 30, Laws of Enugu State 2004, which criminalises false accusation and misinformation to law-enforcement authorities.

Police confirmed that the case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Enugu, for prosecution, while welfare officers continue to monitor the wellbeing of the children.

Sources say Mr Okonkwo has since initiated legal steps to seek custody of his daughters, citing his exoneration and the criminal charges now pending against his wife.
