Oyo State governor, Seyi Makinde, has expressed the readiness of the state to assume full ownership of the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH) in Ogbomosho.
LAUTECH is jointly owned by Oyo and Osun States.
Makinde made this known while addressing staff and students during a visit to the institution yesterday.
The governor said sole ownership of LAUTECH by Oyo State would bring a permanent solution to the perennial problems the school faces, adding that his government was prepared to fully bear the requisite financial obligations of such a decision.
NewsmakersNG learnt that yesterday’s visit was primary to meet with stakeholders in order to find an amicable solution to the current crisis facing the school, including the ongoing strike by staff the academic staff.
Tweeting about the visit via his handle, @seyimakinde, the governor wrote:
“We visited the Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso (LAUTECH), this morning to meet with all stakeholders, in order to resolve the current crisis which resulted in strike action by staff on November 18, 2019.
“I assured them Oyo State would intervene in the current crisis so studies can resume, if the various staff unions reach an agreement on how to utilise the intervention fund. However, I told them we need their support to implement a lasting solution to the university’s challenges.
“We believe our proposal for sole ownership for LAUTECH is the solution the university needs. I reiterated that this was not a rejection of Osun State people as our brothers and sisters but a pragmatic solution, as Oyo State is financially prepared to shoulder the responsibility.”
