The Oyo State Government has officially inaugurated a committee to oversee the coronation ceremony of the new Alaafin of Oyo.
In a statement issued today by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Prince Dotun Oyelade, the inaugural meeting of the committee was presided over by Hon. Ademola Ojo, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
During the meeting, Ojo emphasised that preparations for the coronation are already underway in line with the rich cultural traditions of the Oyo people.
“The Oyo State Government, under the leadership of Governor Seyi Makinde, is committed to ensuring that the coronation is a resounding success,” Ojo said. “The Governor expects everyone involved in the planning to be diligent and offer their full support to make this event a historic occasion.”
The committee is composed of key figures from various sectors, ensuring that the event is meticulously planned and executed.
Among the members are four Oyo State cabinet members, including the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Planning, Prof. Musibau Babatunde; the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Wasiu Olatunbosun; Hon. Ademola Ojo, and Prince Dotun Oyelade.
The committee also includes three members of the Oyo State House of Assembly: Hon. Gbenga Oyekola from Atiba State Constituency, Hon. Rahman Olorunpoto from Oyo East/Oyo West Constituency, and Hon. Oladeji Oparinde from Afijio Constituency.
In addition, seven family members of the new Alaafin, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders from across the community are part of the committee.
Governor Seyi Makinde, in his directive, stressed the importance of collaboration and efficiency in making the coronation an event that will not only celebrate the new monarch but also reinforce the cultural and historical legacy of the Oyo Kingdom.
