Female residents of the ancient Oyo town have been advised to remain indoors between 6am and 7pm today, as adherents of the highly secretive Oroo deity celebrate their annual festival.

NewsmakersNG learnt that female visitors, including travellers passing through the town, are also affected by the restriction.

Not all parts of the town will however be affected by the curfew, according a document made available to NewsmakersNG by security sources.

It listed the areas to be affected by the curfew to include, Owode Roundabout, Jabata area, Durbar/Ogbomosho Road, Akesan Market, Isale Oyo Street and Oyo Palace Road.

The document reads: “There will be Oroo festival in Oyo town on Monday July 22, 2019. There will be restriction of movement for women between 0600hrs and 1900hrs. The Oroo ritualists will pass through Owode Roundabout, Jabata area, Durbar/Ogbomosho Road, Akesan Market, Isale Oyo Street and Oyo Palace Road.”
