Outrage has erupted on X after a Lagos-based pastor vowed that a UK-based woman would die by 11pm over a seemingly minor online slight, igniting one of the platform’s most viral controversies in Nigeria.
The dispute involves Bola Abiodun, a youth pastor with the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Christ the Rock Parish in Lagos, and Tomisin, a UK-based health and safety professional.
The confrontation began after a discussion on feminism and workplace conduct.
Another X user had asked how feminists cope in office spaces where everyday interactions can feel “triggering”.
Abiodun responded by criticising modern feminism, saying it encourages people “to read TOO MUCH meaning into every little detail & nuance of intersexual dynamics.”
He added that behaviours previously dismissed as harmless, including what some now call inappropriate touching, are being labelled sexual assault.
Tomisin joined the thread and directed a pointed comment at the pastor, writing, “Mr Abiodun, please teach your boys to keep their hands to themselves.”
The use of “Mr” instead of his title “Dr” immediately provoked a strong reaction from Abiodun. “I’m a ‘Dr’, not a ‘Mr’. Don’t refer to me as MR again. I’m not your mate,” he replied.
Tomisin then mockingly doubled down: “mr with the small m.”
The argument quickly escalated, with Abiodun warning her not to disrespect him and invoking his religious authority.
The situation reached its peak when he publicly declared: “I, Pastor Dr Bola Abiodun, hereby pronounce a curse on u that if you don’t retract & apologise for not calling me by my appropriate titles, u shall pass on to glory in your sleep at 11pm on 23rd Feb, ’26. If you wake up tomorrow morning then I’m not a man of God and I’m a bastard.”
The statement instantly went viral, with screenshots circulating widely and users mocking the pastor by openly counting down to the hour he said the curse would take effect.
Some posted reminders, others joked about “checking in tomorrow morning,” turning the online spat into a viral spectacle.
Tomisin appeared unfazed, replying at one point, “I’m bored now, when are you going to show me how dangerous you are mr bola abiodun?”
The incident has quickly become part of a broader debate about consent, harassment, and generational attitudes toward behaviours once dismissed as harmless.
Supporters of Tomisin argue that her comment was meant to draw attention to boundaries and respect, while critics condemned Abiodun’s response as disproportionate.
Meanwhile, many social media users continue to mock the pastor’s threat, turning it into a humorous yet tense countdown online.
By Monday night, checks showed that Abiodun had locked his X account, removing public access to his posts while leaving his profile visible.
Despite this, the screenshots and reactions continue to circulate widely.
