Otun Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Abimbola Ajibade, was conspicuously absent as the Olubadan-in-Council met today to formally nominate Oba Owolabi Olakulehin as the 43rd Olubadan.
The seat became vacant on March 14, 2024, following the death of Oba Lekan Balogun, who reigned for two years and died at the age of 81.
Ajibade as the next in rank to Olakulehin is statutorily saddled with the responsibility of nominating him as the next Olubadan.
He had, however, told journalists in an interview earlier this week that the Olakulehin is sick and not physically fit to occupy throne.
Despite Ajibade’s position, the kingmakers agreed to appoint Olakulehin as the next Olubadan at a meeting called by Otun Olubadan of Ibadan land, High Chief Rashidi Ladoja, today.
He was nominated by the Osi Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Gbadamosi Adebimpe, who is next in rank to Ajibade.
Olakulehin’s name is expected to be sent to Governor Seyi Makinde for approval.
