In a world press conference, today, Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, accused security chiefs in the state of taking unlawful directives from former governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola.

The governor also sounded the alarm over an alleged plot by his predecessor to incite chaos and anarchy in the state.

Adeleke alleged that Oyetola is exploiting his familial connection to President Bola Tinubu to orchestrate an unlawful takeover of local government councils and also destabilise the state.

“I regret to inform Mr. President and the public that Mr. Gboyega Oyetola has concluded arrangements to cause mayhem in Osun State starting from Monday,” Adeleke declared.

He alleged that Oyetola has been issuing illegal directives to security operatives, including the State Commissioner of Police, the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), to enforce a disputed court judgment.

“He is issuing illegal directives to security operatives to enforce illegality simply because he is the nephew of Mr. President,” Adeleke stated.

The crux of the controversy centres on a contentious court ruling purportedly reversing the sack of local government chairmen elected under the All Progressives Congress (APC) platform.

Adeleke contends that these officials were lawfully removed prior to his inauguration, contrary to claims that they were dismissed by his executive order.

He expressed confidence that President Tinubu would not sanction such a “dictatorial violation of the constitution” that could lead to widespread unrest.

In a fervent appeal, Adeleke called upon “men and women of goodwill” to intervene before the situation escalates beyond control.

He urged the Nigerian Bar Association to scrutinise the legal judgments in question, emphasising that taking the law into one’s own hands is both “illegal, unconstitutional, and anti-democratic.”

“For a serving minister, the person of Mr. Gboyega Oyetola, to lead the charge to violate the constitution and foment violence over a judicial process is not only shameful but is sadism and treason taken too far,” Adeleke asserted.
