Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has claimed that Senate President, Godswill Akpabio and billionaire businessman, Aliko Dangote, contacted him during the Osun State governorship election and asked him to delete some of his posts on social media.
Davido made the disclosure in an interview with News Central TV while reflecting on his involvement in the August 15 governorship election, in which his uncle, Ademola Adeleke, secured re-election as governor.
The singer did not identify which specific posts either Akpabio or Dangote allegedly asked him to remove.
The claim comes after Davido emerged as one of the most prominent personalities campaigning for Adeleke during the closely fought election.
Davido had formally joined his uncle’s re-election campaign earlier in the year and was appointed to lead youth mobilisation.
He had also repeatedly used his social media platforms to comment on the election, urge voters to reject violence and challenge political opponents of the governor.
His intervention became increasingly prominent as the campaign intensified. In June, Davido called on political actors to settle their differences through the ballot rather than violence after an attack on the Accord Party chairman in Osogbo Local Government Area.
He subsequently said he would be physically present in Osun on election day to protect his uncle’s votes and warned against attempts to manipulate the poll.
The election ended with Adeleke, the Accord Party candidate, defeating All Progressives Congress candidate, Bola Oyebamiji.
The Independent National Electoral Commission declared Adeleke the winner on August 16 after an overnight collation exercise in Osogbo.
He secured 511,067 votes against Oyebamiji’s 444,815, giving him a winning margin of 66,252 votes. African Democratic Congress candidate Najeem Salaam finished third with 17,180 votes.
Adeleke won 19 of Osun’s 30 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won 11. INEC recorded 1,010,684 accredited voters, with 985,079 valid votes and 207 rejected votes.
The result has attracted national attention because Osun was regarded as an important political test ahead of the 2027 general election.
Davido had previously played a visible role in Adeleke’s successful 2022 governorship campaign. For the 2026 election, however, his involvement became more formal. He joined the Accord Party and was appointed to the campaign’s youth mobilisation structure.
His disclosure comes just two days after Adeleke’s re-election, which has already triggered congratulations from political figures including President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar.
The renewed attention on Davido’s election activities also comes amid his earlier public clash with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, whom he criticised during the campaign period.
