Management of Ede Muslim High School, in Osun State, has made public the result of the West African School Certificate examination of Senator Ademola Adeleke.
Adeleke’s victory in the governorship primary of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State is currently being challenged by his opponents on the ground that he does not possess the minimum academic qualification to contest a governorship election.
Section 177 (d) of the 1999 constitution stipulates a minimum of secondary school certificate for a candidate to be eligible for a governorship election.
The provisional result and the testimonial, both of which were signed by the school’s principal, were obtained by NewsmakersNG today.
The result showed that Adeleke sat for the examination in 1981 and wrote eight subjects. He failed the English Language, while the remaining results are pending, meaning they had not been formally released by the examination body.
What is unclear however is the summary of the result, which indicated that Adeleke passed six subjects with distinctions, two credits and three passes.
The testimonial attached to the result also attested to Adeleke’s “indelible character”.
A major ground upon which Adeleke’s main opponent in the governorship primary, Dr Akin Ogunbiyi, is contesting his victory is that he does possess the minimum academic qualification required by law.
Also, two aggrieved members of the PDP in Osun State have filed a suit to challenge Adeleke’s victory on the ground that he does not possess a secondary school certificate.
Adeleke himself is yet to react to this allegation.
