Governor Ademola Adeleke

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of concentrating developmental projects in his hometown, Ede, to the detriment of other communities across the state.

In a press statement issued Thursday by its Director of Media and Information, Mogaji Kola Olabisi, the opposition party alleged that the current administration had breached the principle of equitable distribution of public resources by prioritising infrastructure development in Ede while neglecting other towns and villages.

According to the APC, several road projects, including dualisation of entry routes and multiple inner-city road constructions, are ongoing in Ede, whereas “no meaningful developmental project” is visible in many other parts of Osun.

“Rather than spend the resources of the state evenly, the governor has opted to lavish the commonwealth on developing Ede at the detriment of other towns,” the statement read.

The party described the situation as a dangerous precedent that could encourage future administrations to focus development on personal hometowns instead of the entire state.

The APC also criticised members of the Osun State House of Assembly, accusing them of failing to represent their constituencies effectively by allowing what it called uneven development to persist.

It questioned how lawmakers would defend their stewardship to constituents whose communities, it claimed, had seen little or no government projects since Adeleke assumed office.

Beyond infrastructure distribution, the opposition party raised fresh concerns over the proposed Osun State International Airport project allegedly relocated from Ido-Osun to Ede.

The APC claimed the state government ignored a directive from the Federal Ministry of Aviation and Aerospace to suspend the project pending resolution of disputes over the existing airstrip.

The party referenced a December 6, 2024 letter signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Meribole, advising the state to halt the foundation-laying ceremony and harmonise plans with the Federal Government because the airstrip is captured in the federal budget.

Despite the directive, the APC alleged construction activities have continued at the new site.

The opposition further challenged the governor to clarify allegations that about ₦10 billion budgeted for the airport project is being used despite the suspension order.

“Has the suspension directive been lifted, or has the project become a personal one?” the party queried.

The APC urged the governor to publicly confirm or deny the allegations to ease growing tension in the state ahead of the August 8, 2026 governorship election.

As of the time of filing this report, the Osun State Government had not issued an official response to the claims.
