The political atmosphere in Osun State has become increasingly tense following the killing of a young man in Ikire, as the governorship campaign council of the All Progressives Congress candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), accused the Accord Party of politicising the incident for electoral gain.

In a statement issued at the weekend, the APC campaign council urged the police and other security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation into the death of one Eluyera Kolade, alleged to be the son of the women leader of the Accord Party in Irewole Local Government Area.

The statement, signed by Mogaji Kola Olabisi, Co-chairman (Print) of the Media and Publicity Committee of the AMBO Governorship Election Campaign Council, described allegations linking APC members to the killing as “frivolous, fabricated and misleading.”

According to the APC campaign organisation, attempts by the Accord Party to connect the killing to its members were part of a calculated political strategy aimed at discrediting the party and its governorship candidate ahead of the August 15, 2026 governorship election in the state.

The council accused supporters of Governor Ademola Adeleke of spreading misinformation capable of undermining peace and security in the state, insisting that violence had never been associated with the APC.

While sympathising with the family of the deceased, the campaign council called on the police to unravel the circumstances surrounding the killing and prosecute anyone found culpable.

“Our governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji, is a perfect gentleman who cannot hurt a fly, and his political ambition is not worth the blood of any individual,” the statement said.

The APC also referenced a recent allegation involving Governor Adeleke’s relative, Adebayo Adeleke, popularly known as B-Red, claiming that a previous accusation against its members was later found by police investigators to be false.

The statement further recalled the killing of former APC local government chairman, Hon. Remi Abass, in Ikire, alleging that political violence had previously been linked to elements associated with the opposition.

As political campaigns intensify ahead of the Osun governorship poll, the latest exchange underscores growing tensions among rival parties, with security agencies expected to play a crucial role in maintaining order and ensuring credible investigations into politically sensitive incidents.
