Osotimehin Served God, Humanity: Adewole

Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, has described the late Executive Director, United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA), Prof Babatunde Osotimehin, as a man who served God and humanity during his 68 years on earth.

The late Osotimehin was one time Minister of Health between 2008 and 2010.

Addressing reporters on Thursday, at the end of Service of Song organised in honour of Osotimehin in Abuja by National Action Committee against AIDS (NACA), Adewole said, “Osotimehin served both God and humanity throughout his lifetime and was passionate about the well-being of girls and women in the society.

“His legacy will definitely live forever in the life of those people he presided over their well-being.”

Similarly, Pro. Onyebuchi Chukwu, also one of Osotimehin’s successors at the health ministry described Osotimehin as a sociable, humble and selfless professional.

“He was a sociable, humble and selfless personality; I rated him high while serving the nation in different capacity.

“Osotimehin was the pride of the country at the UNFPA. He will be greatly missed.

Chukwu also said Osotimehin was a man of immeasurable achievements.

Victor Omoyele, representative of People Living with HIV in Nigeria said,“Osotimehin will be remembered by 3.1 million Nigerians living with HIV in Nigeria.(NAN)

Osotimehin’s daughter , Mrs Kehinde Olorunleke, described her father as a man who embraced his work with passion.

”He believed in us as his children than we believe in ourselves. We will miss him greatly,” she said

Osotimehin studied medicine at the University of Ibadan and earned Doctorate Degree from the University of Birmingham in 1979 as well as other academic laurels.

Born on Feb. 6, 1949 in Ogun State, he was also the pioneer Director-General, National Action Committee on AIDS. He died June 4.
