Malik Yahya/

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo has reportedly written to Google requesting that the American multinational technology company should “immediately remove and/or suspend publication/broadcast of certain content on the account of RootsTV Nigeria on the platform of Youtube that is considered as defamatory.”

The request was conveyed in a strongly worded 2-page letter signed by Osaro Eghobamien, SAN of Perchstone and Gracys LP alongside Femi Atoyebi, SAN of Femi Atoyebi & Co, says an online publication – This is Lagos.

The Vice President who has been at the receiving end of what he described as “malicious” accusations, has even threatened to forego his constitutional immunity in order to pursue redress.

In the letter with subject line: “PRE-ACTION NOTICE: DEFAMATION OF HIS EXCELLENCY, PROF YEMI OSINBAJO, SAN IN THE YOUTUBE/ONLINE PUBLICATION OF SEPTEMBER 20, 2019”, the lawyers to the VP aver that Google which owns Youtube “has provided a platform through which an account holder named RootsTV Nigeria, an online news platform…is able to continuously broadcast defamatory contents.”

The lawyers after listing what they considered defamatory then asked Google to take down the content with immediate effect.

“Please note that if Google refuses or neglects to remove the publication immediately, we will be compelled to consider legal options open to our Client.”
