Oseloka Obi, son of the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has addressed viral allegations linking him to homosexuality after a photo of him with British-Nigerian, Kent Okwesa, circulated online this week.
The image, which showed both men seated closely at a London restaurant, triggered widespread speculation and gossip on social media.
In a personal statement shared yesterday, Oseloka dismissed the insinuations as unfounded and explained that the photograph was being taken out of context to malign both him and his father.
“The truth is simple: Peter Obi’s son appears in photos with his friends and colleagues, nothing more. It happens with mixed ethnicities, it happens being associated with others. They are just photos,” he wrote.
Oseloka acknowledged the intense scrutiny that comes with being the son of a political figure but stressed that it should not justify false narratives.
“I am not my father, nor will I ever be. I am not perfect, nor will I ever be. I will not allow anyone to use me as a pawn in this game. I will not allow anyone to weaponise photos or friendships to try to create problems for him. That is not only unfair to me, it is unfair to him,” he stated.
He described himself as a “private person” who values his relationships and career, emphasising that his personal life should not be politicised.
“I am an actor by profession. Many are surprised, even the basics to some, embarrassing, and sometimes my father is as surprised as anyone that I might find time for him. But I am still his son. And I am still his child,” Oseloka explained.
He further appealed for decency in public discourse, calling on Nigerians to focus on the real issues affecting the country rather than rumors about his private life.
“With my father, I am seen, not because he is my father, but because he is made for more. If I were to follow his steps, I have no shame, no worries, no attacks that would deter me, they are his shoes. But we will go, we will fight, and we will continue to focus on the future of Nigeria,” he added.
Oseloka’s statement has drawn praise from supporters online, many describing it as heartfelt and dignified.
Social media influencer, Nefertiti, reacting to the post, wrote: “Oseloka Obi is a class act. He is his father’s son. This was straight from the heart.”
