Chief Mascot Uzor Kalu, younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Abia State governorship election on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Kalu, who made the declaration during an event in Umuahia on Sunday, said his decision was driven by a commitment to provide transparent and inclusive leadership that would “restore Abia’s pride.”
He vowed to unseat the incumbent Governor, Dr. Alex Otti, citing what he described as unfulfilled promises and governance failures under the Labour Party administration.
“I have seen the gap between promises and performance in our state. Abia deserves better, and that is why I am offering myself to serve. We will bring truth, inclusivity, and progress back to governance,” Kalu said.
The former chief of staff to ex-Governor Orji Kalu contested the 2023 governorship election under the Action Peoples Party (APP) before rejoining the APC earlier this year.
He pledged to align Abia’s development agenda with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope vision and ensure prompt payment of salaries and pensions, as well as local government autonomy.
Political observers say his entry into the race could reshape Abia’s political landscape as the APC intensifies its campaign to reclaim the state from the Labour Party.
