Mrs. Olayinka Olayemi has been elected as the new Chairperson of the Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU) Alumni Association, Abeokuta Chapter, following a keenly contested election held on Sunday, February 16, 2025.
The election, held at the Akin Ogunpola Hall of the African Church Cathedral, Ita-Iyalode, was presided over by a former chairman of the association, Alhaji Sina Adefolahan, alongside Mrs. Labake Olonode.
Olayemi, a seasoned administrator and retired Director of Human Resources Management at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE), Abuja, took over from Barr. (Chief) Lukman Abiodun Abdullahi, the Otun-Bamofin of Egbaland. Before her elevation to the top leadership position, she had served the association in various capacities, including Social Secretary and Vice-Chairperson.
A proud alumna of Ogun State University (now Olabisi Onabanjo University), Olayemi earned a B.Sc. in Economics in 1987, followed by a Postgraduate Diploma (PGD) in Public Administration in 2008, and a Master’s in Public Administration (MPA) in 2016. She is also a fellow of several professional bodies, including the Institute of Management Consultants (IMC), the Nigeria Institute of Management (NIM), and the Chartered Institute of Personnel Management (CIPM).

The election was graced by several eminent alumni, including Justice Bamidele Adebayo, Dr. Abiola Tonade (a former bursar of the university), Bishop Solomon O. Batunde Ojumu of the African Church Cathedral, Alhaji Taoheed Bankole (Principal General, Egba Division), Elder Yinka Fashina (Omoluabi), and Comrade Ebun Atinuke, among others.
The swearing-in ceremony was officiated by Oluwaseyi Sokoya, a Permanent Secretary in the Ogun State Civil Service.
In her acceptance speech, Mrs. Olayemi expressed gratitude to the elders and members of the alumni association for entrusting her with the leadership mantle. She called for unity and collective efforts to propel the association to greater heights, emphasizing the need for alumni engagement in the university’s development.
With her extensive experience in administration and human resource management, members are optimistic that her tenure will usher in new opportunities and strategic growth for the association.
