The ongoing leadership crisis in the Lagos State House of Assembly has reportedly led to the withdrawal of security details attached to the Oniru of Iru, Oba Abdulwasiu Omogbolahan Lawal, and the Elegushi of Ikate-Elegushi Kingdom, Oba Alayeluwa Saheed Ademola Elegushi.
According to reports, the move is linked to the recent impeachment of Hon. Mudashiru Obasa as Speaker of the State Assembly. Weeks after his removal over allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of power, Obasa made a dramatic return to office today.
His erstwhile deputy, Mojisola Meranda, had been sworn in as Speaker following his impeachment on January 13, 2025. However, in a fresh twist to the unfolding crisis, security personnel assigned to Meranda were withdrawn on Thursday, clearing the way for Obasa’s reinstatement.
Accompanied by security agents, Obasa re-entered the Assembly complex and declared himself the rightful Speaker.
A source confirmed to THE WHISTLER that security personnel attached to Oba Lawal had also been recalled, further escalating tensions surrounding the ongoing power struggle.
