Former governor of Ekiti State and Deputy National Chairman, South, of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Engr. Segun Oni, on Monday, declared his intention to run for the 2018 governorships race in state.

Oni declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat in a six page address, in which he highlighted his readiness to oust the incumbent Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) government and usher in a new era of economic recovery.

Addressing party faithful at the APC secretariat, in Ado Ekiti, Oni said his candidature would make make it easy for the APC to regain the seat of governance.

“I strongly believe that what Ekiti needs now is experience, knowledge, industry, transparency and inclusiveness (all of which forms the acronym: EKITI) to enable us carry out the necessary repair and relaunch our sate along the path of real development and growth for the benefit of all. I believe I possess these necessary qualities,” he declared.

Director-General of Oni’s campaign, Ife Arowosoge, was first to make public the former governor’s ambition, during a meeting of some APC leaders and members from all the 16 local government areas of the state, last Thursday.

Arowosoge, a former member of the House of Representatives, disclosed that Oni had written the party executives at ward, local government and state levels, notifying them of his intention to contest 2018 governorship election.

He had said at the meeting that “Oni has the experience, exposure and pedigree to make a difference if given the chance to occupy the governor’s seat again”.

“He is simple, plain-minded, intelligent, humble, respectful, incorruptible, responsible and God-fearing,” he had added.
