One Killed, Several Injured as Bandits Attack #EndSARS Protesters in Edo

Police authorities in Edo have confirmed one person killed and several others injured by faceless bandits who attacked youths protesting against police brutality in the state yesterday.

A statement issued by the state police spokesman, SP Chidi Nwabuzor, says, “The Edo State Police Command received with shock the report of gruesome murder of Simon John by some suspected hoodlums who attacked the #EndSARS protesters at the Kings Square, Benin City, today, Friday 16th October, 2020.

 “The Commissioner of Police Edo State, CP Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, mni has directed the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to commence a full scale investigation into the immediate and remote cause of the murder of late Simon John, vowed to arrest the perpetrators of this dastardly act for prosecution in court accordingly.

  “In the light of the above, the CP hereby commiserates with the family members of late Simon John for his untimely death and pray to God to give them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss. He however, appeals to the #EndSARS protesters to end the protest and patiently wait for the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Mohammed Abubakar Adamu, NPM, mni to implement the Police reforms.”
