About 30 minutes of firefight recorded one casualty in Ogun State today when quick response by policemen foiled a robbery attack on a luxury bus belonging to Young Shall Grow Motors.

According to the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, policemen from Ogun State Command shot dead one of the armed robbery suspects along Sagamu-Benin Expressway.

Oyeyemi told NewsmakersNG in a statement: “The suspect was a member of the robbery gang that blocked the express road in an attempt to rob a luxury bus belonging to Young shall Grow motors.

“While the operation was going on, a distress call was made to the police at Ogbere Divisional headquarters; consequent upon which the DPO, SP John Okon, led his anti-robbery men to the scene where they engaged the bandits in a gun duel which lasted for about 30 minutes. At the end of the encounter, one of the suspects was shot dead while others escaped into the nearby bush.

“Recovered from the deceased robber are a locally made long barrel gun, a toy pistol and charms.

“Meanwhile, the commissioner of police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, who expressed satisfaction over the performance of his men, has ordered a serious manhunt for other members of the gang with a view of bringing them to justice. He further assured members of the public that their security is guaranteed all the time.”
