Kwara State security officials are investigating a fresh attack by suspected bandits in Koro Town, Ekiti Local Government Area, which left one person dead and forced residents to flee their homes in fear.

The attack, reported on Sunday afternoon, saw gunmen storm the community heavily armed, firing sporadically and destroying some houses and property.

Koro shares a boundary with Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, placing it along a strategic corridor often exploited by criminals for cross-state movement and escape.

The town is approximately 1 km from the Kogi State border and 4.5 km from the Ekiti State boundary.

This assault follows a far deadlier attack in Woro community, Kaiama Local Government Area, on Saturday, in which at least 75 people were killed.

In response to the spate of violence, President Bola Tinubu directed the immediate deployment of an army battalion to Kaiama LGA.

He condemned the attacks, describing them as “cowardly and beastly,” and ordered Operation Savannah Shield to protect defenceless communities and prevent further atrocities.

Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq of Kwara State also condemned the attacks, calling the targeting of civilians “heartless” and vowing to work with federal authorities to restore security in the affected areas.

Residents of Koro Town remain on edge following the attack, as the community grapples with the aftermath of property destruction and the ongoing threat posed by armed bandits along the border corridor.
