Six principal officers, including the embattled Speaker, Rt. Hon. Akindele Jumoke, of the Ondo State House of Assembly have resigned their positions with immediate effect.
Their resignation followed the inauguration of Mr. Oluwarotimi Akeredolu as the governor of the state, a development that has significantly altered the political configuration of the state.
In their resignation letter, dated March 20, 2017 and addressed to the Clerk of the Assembly, the affected lawmakers said their decision was their own sacrifice to ensure continued peace and development in the state.
The other principal officers include: deputy speaker, Rt. Hon. Olotu Fatai; majority leader, Hon. Akinsoyinu Ifedayo; deputy majority leader, Hon. Obadiah Vincent; whip, Hon. (Princess) Adesanya Kemisola and assistant parliamentary secretary, Hon. Towase Kuti.
The letter, which was jointly signed by the affected lawmakers, reads: “We the undersigned hereby resign our position as principal officers of this August house.
“Our resignation has become imperative in the face of the new geopolitical configuration of the state, so that peace, which is the hallmark of any administration, will continue to reign in the land. Moreover, we are desirous of moving the state forward for the benefit of our people
“We thank the members, management and staff of the Assembly for opportunity given us to serve.”
The letter was copied the governor and the state police commissioner.
