Kalesanwa, a grassroots socio-political group in Ondo State has thrown its weight behind Governor Lucky Orimisan Ayedatiwa ahead of the 2024 gubernatorial election in the state.

The organisation made its stand known at its inaugural meeting held in Akure, the state capital, on Sunday.

In a statement by its Public Relations Officer, Comrade Tairu Amuda, the organization highlighted a number of factors that earned the Governor its support.

In his speech at the occasion, Convener of Kalesanwa, Moyosola Niran-Oladunni, reeled out the objectives of the group.

The statement quoted Niran-Oladunni as describing Kalesanwa as “a socio-political and strategic economic development group created with a vision to becoming a formidable political pressure group with enormous political capital and whose support for any candidate and/or political party will automatically translate into success at the polls”

According to him “the group seeks to resuscitate the core values of the people of Ondo State such as, uprightness, selflessness, humility, and service to humanity, while also promoting the basic democratic principle of allowing the people choose their leaders freely, without imposition or interference”.

Niran-Oladunni noted that Ayedatiwa stands out among all the contenders for the governorship seat and is “therefore worthy of the support of a reputable and formidable organization like Kalesanwa”.

On the way forward, Niran-Oladuni, who is also a former gubernatorial aspirant on the platform of the All Progressives Congress in 2016, disclosed that “all organs of Kalesanwa across the 203 wards in the state has been fully activated in support of Aiyedatiwa’s governorship bid”.

Some of the highlights of the meeting, according to the statement, included the collective endorsement of Governor Aiyedatiwa by the three Senatorial District Coordinators and the Local Government organs of Kalesanwa.

The meeting was attended by all the local government coordinators across the state and the senatorial coordinators, including Mr Dele Ojomolade of the North Senatorial District, Mr Akinwande Akinrodoye of the Central Senatorial District and Comrade Nelson Mafo of the South Senatorial District. Also in attedance was the Special Assistant to the Governor on Political Matters, Mr Smart Omodunmbi Jnr, other political leaders and special invitees.
