Ondo 2020: Akeredolu Bickers with Main Rival, Jegede

Ololade Adeyanju/

Ondo State governor, Oluwarotimi Akeredolu, yesterday used the occasion of President Muhammadu Buhari’s visit to the state to taunt his main rival in this year’s gubernatorial election, Eyitayo Jegede.

Jegede of the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) contested against Akeredolu, who was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2016 governorship election in the state.

Jegede is also considered the front-runner for the PDP governorship ticket for this year’s election.

Taking to his Twitter handle to showcase one of the roads inaugurated by Buhari during his visit, Akeredolu called Jegede’s attention to the fact that the six kilometres road passes through his neighbourhood.

The governor also noted that the road had been neglected for 20 years, adding that he was sure that Jegede would now enjoy a smooth ride when he began his political campaign.

Akeredolu wrote, “Morning @TayoJegedeSAN. I hope you like the new road I built in your neighborhood totalling about 6km. It was neglected for over 20 years. Now You’ll have less vehicle issues when you start your campaign fully. #DevelopOndo #IbiGiga.”

But Jegede in a measured response to the governor said the kind of road Akeredolu was boasting about should ordinarily be constructed by local governments.

His response reads, “In a functional system, this road should be the function and responsibilities of a local government. We are coming to change the narratives.
