The Olubadan-designate, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has described Ibadan billionaire and philanthropist, Bashorun Kola Daisi, as his mentor and a shining example of success, as the elder statesman marked his 93rd birthday.

According to a statement by Adeola Oloko, Media Aide to the Olubadan-designate, the incoming Olubadan left the throng of visitors at his Bodija residence to personally visit Daisi at his Iyaganku home, where he praised the nonagenarian for his enduring contributions to business, philanthropy and education, particularly through Kola-Daisi University.

“Baba, you may not know how much you mean to us. You are an inspiration. We value your contributions to our socio-economic development. We cherish your academic exploits from Ibadan Boys’ High School in 1951 to the London School of Economics.

“The lives you have touched through your investments and philanthropy are countless. It is our prayer that you live long to celebrate many more years in the land of the living,” the Olubadan-elect said.

Reflecting on the role of mentors, Ladoja added, “When you are growing up, there are people who have travelled the road you seek to take. Whether you like it or not, you must follow their footsteps if you don’t want to fall.”

He also named other figures who inspired him, including Asiwaju Bode Amao, the late Dr Victor Olunloyo, the late High Chief Omowale Kuye, the late Barrister Kareem Latunji and the late Otunba Subomi Balogun, calling them a “galaxy of stars” whose legacies continue to enrich humanity.

Responding, Bashorun Daisi thanked Oba Ladoja for the honour of the visit and congratulated him on his emergence as the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland.

Flanked by his son, Oba Abiodun Kola-Daisi, the Osi Olubadan-designate, he noted that longevity plays a vital role in Ibadan’s chieftaincy system.

“I am proud to witness your ascension. I pray God grants you long life, wisdom, knowledge and understanding to discharge your obligations to the people,” he said.
