The Olowu of Owu is seeking the formation of Owu Traditional Council.
The Owu monarch has appealed to the Ogun State Government to actualize the dream of the Owu Kingdom as he claims the Owu people are independent beings and not under the control of the Egbas.
The Olowu of Owu, Oba Adegboyega Dosunmu, has declared the self-dependence of his kingdom openly as one of Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo’s Chiefs, said the Owus can leave Egbaland if they don’t want to be under the control of Alake.
The Olowu has affirmed that his domain is not under the Alake and Paramount Ruler of Egbaland. He also said that he and his subjects would continue to appeal to the Ogun State Government to create the Owu Traditional Council and make the Olowu a paramount ruler.

This is in response to the comments made by the Alake’s Chief, Adebola Lawal, the Baapitan of Egbaland where he remarked that… “Owu is not different from Egba. If the people of Owu feel they are not Egba, why not pack their loads and leave this place? Why is Owu different from Egba? Are they not on Egba land?”

Meanwhile, the Olowu through Chief Saheed Akinmade, the Oganla of Owu kingdom in a statement says: “Owu people are independent ethnic group different from the Egbas and, as a result, not under the control of the Alake or any other Egba monarch. The Owu people also have the right to continue with the appeal to the state government to have Owu Traditional Council.”
