Efforts to deliver the Asaba Township Stadium on time has earned the state governor, Mr Ifeanyi Okowa, commendations from a group known as Anioma Youths Network for Development (AYND).
AYND’s National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Frank Oshanugor, acknowledged in a statement at the weekend that bold efforts were being taken for the early completion of works in readiness for 2018 African Athletics Championship to be held at the Asaba Township Stadium.
The statement reads in part: “The governor had in recent time promised to complete the outstanding works and Spectator’s stand/tartan track of the stadium within the shortest possible time. In line with this promise, contractors have been mobilized to commence work.
“Our group therefore, enjoins the contractors to deliver quality job without ‘cutting corners’.
“The AYND is also urging Governor Okowa to similarly address other pressing infrastructure problems in Delta State, stressing that the youths would continue to support and encourage the state government and individuals who are working for the infrastructural, agricultural, and other economic development of towns and villages in Anioma area of the state.
“In a recent statement, the AYND which on September 2, 2017 donated books and school materials to about 300 students and pupils of three Local Government areas in Delta North Senatorial District had also called on Okowa’s administration to tackle the erosion problem and failed portions of roads in the state.”
