The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, has announced plans to establish a dedicated police post around the Ibogun campus of Olabisi Onabanjo University as part of decisive steps to strengthen security within the institution and its host communities.

Ojajuni made the declaration on Monday during an on-the-spot assessment visit to the campus, where he engaged key stakeholders on practical strategies to address emerging security concerns.

The police boss, accompanied by senior officers including the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Bolanle Muritala, and the Area Commander, Ifo, ACP Seyi Williams, held a high-level security meeting with the university’s leadership and community representatives.

Among those present were the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ayodeji Johnson Agboola; the Provost of the College of Engineering and Environmental Sciences, Professor Bashir Olufemi Odufuwa; and the traditional ruler of the community, Oba Timothy Sowumi, the Olu of Ibogun-Sowumi.

Student leaders, including representatives of the Student Union Government, also participated in the engagement, raising concerns over safety within the campus and adjoining areas. These concerns were corroborated by the university management and community leaders, all of whom stressed the urgency of coordinated security interventions.

Responding, Ojajuni assured stakeholders that the command had carried out a comprehensive assessment of the security landscape and would immediately scale up policing efforts in the area.

He outlined a multi-layered approach, including intensified patrols, intelligence-driven operations, and sustained stakeholder engagement, aimed at ensuring a safer academic environment.

A major outcome of the visit was the Commissioner’s directive for the establishment of a police post strategically located around the university community. The initiative, he said, would enhance rapid response capability, boost police visibility, and deepen community policing efforts.

In addition, Ojajuni disclosed that the command was strengthening collaboration with other security agencies, including the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Amotekun Corps, and the Ogun State So-Safe Corps, to ensure a coordinated security architecture for the area.

The visit also took the CP to the Ibogun Divisional Police Headquarters, where he assessed operational readiness and charged officers to improve efficiency, responsiveness, and service delivery.

Reaffirming his commitment, Ojajuni emphasized that the Ogun State Police Command would continue to prioritise community policing, inter-agency synergy, and proactive engagement as critical tools for sustaining peace and security across the state.

The development is expected to bring immediate relief to students, staff, and residents, while reinforcing confidence in the state’s security framework.
