Officials of the Ogun State Government and community leaders have commended Shell Nigeria Gas (SNG) and NNPC Gas Marketing Limited (NGML) for their collaborative efforts in rehabilitating the 4.5-kilometre Ilogbo Road in Ado-Odo/Otta Local Government Area.
The newly commissioned road, inaugurated on Thursday, April 3, serves as a critical access route to over 75 communities and was previously in poor condition before the intervention by the two companies operating in the area.
“Today, we celebrate more than the completion of a road—we celebrate a bridge to opportunity, development, and unity among our people,” said Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, who was represented by Deputy Governor Noimot Salako-Oyedele at the commissioning ceremony.
She added, “Creating an enabling environment for business through strategic public-private partnerships is a cornerstone of our development agenda.”
SNG Managing Director, Ralph Gbobo, highlighted the impact of the initiative: “This road is a testament to our commitment to improving the quality of life in Ogun State. Our partnership with NGML demonstrates a unified approach to sustainable community development. At SNG, we are proud to help deliver real, lasting value to the people we serve.”
Similarly, NGML Managing Director Igwe Justin Ezeala, represented by the Executive Director of Gas Distribution, Lawrence Chukwu, said: “We take pride in supporting the communities where we operate. Our stakeholders’ well-being remains a priority, and Ogun State is no exception.”
The Olota of Otta-Awori Kingdom, Oba Abdulkabir Obalenlege, represented by the Aro of Ota, Ezekiel Fadipe, expressed deep appreciation to the project sponsors and commended their inclusive approach, which engaged local artisans and community labour in the construction process.
SNG has been active in Ogun State for over two decades, developing a robust natural gas distribution network in Agbara and Otta. The company’s operations have spurred industrial growth, created jobs, and enhanced the State’s internally generated revenue. The Ilogbo Road rehabilitation expands these benefits—improving trade routes, connecting businesses to wider markets, and fostering broader economic development across the region.
