The Commissioner of Police (CP) in Ogun, Mr Ahmed Iliyasu, was celebrated at a community in the state today following his quick response to a distress call that led to the death of a suspected armed robber during a gun battle with a 5-man gang operating at Ibara Housing Estate area in Abeokuta, the state capital.

The state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi told NewsmakersNG through a statement that the gang “at about 1:00 am of Friday 09/11/18 invaded a compound housing 12 flats with dangerous weapons and started dispossessing the occupants of their valuable properties”.

He further stated: “In the course of their operation, a distress call was made to the Police by a neighbour, on the strength of which the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, promptly directed the Officer in Charge, FSARS, SP Uba Adams, to quickly move to the scene and put the situation under control.

“The operatives of FSARS swiftly moved into the scene where they engaged the hoodlums in a gun battle at the end of which one of the gang members was shot dead while others escaped with various degrees of gunshot injuries.

“The items recovered from the gang included GSM handsets, 4 laptops computers, wallets and other valuables belonging to the residents of the compound.

“The victims of the robbery were full of praises for the operatives of FSARS for their quick response to their distress call.”

He equally warned criminals to stop testing the Command’s resolve and willpower in crime fighting as they will always meet their waterloo whenever and wherever they operate within the state.
