The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed the suspension of the selection process for the next Awujale of Ijebuland, warning the public to disregard rumours alleging the adoption of a particular candidate.
The clarification follows circulating claims that the Ifa oracle had chosen Prince Ademorin Aliu Kuye as the next Awujale and that the State Government had allegedly endorsed him.
Speaking in a statement, the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs said: “The Government has no involvement in, nor has it endorsed, any claim regarding the selection of a candidate through an oracle or any informal process. Such suggestions are false and misleading, and we urge the public to disregard them.”
The Commissioner further highlighted that the selection process for filling the vacant stool of the Awujale has been temporarily halted.
“The suspension was necessary due to the various complaints and petitions we received concerning the selection procedure. This pause will allow for a thorough review to ensure that the process remains transparent, lawful, and acceptable to all stakeholders.”
The statement underlined that the government’s actions are guided by applicable laws, recognised customs, and established procedures.
The Commissioner added:
“Our commitment is to uphold peace, order, and respect for traditional institutions across Ogun State. Any attempt to spread unverified information capable of causing tension or misunderstanding is strongly discouraged.”
Residents and traditional stakeholders have been urged to rely solely on official communications from the Ogun State Government regarding the Awujale selection.
The government stressed that no candidate has been officially endorsed, and the suspension remains in effect until further notice, reinforcing its dedication to a fair and lawful process for the enthronement of Ijebuland’s traditional ruler.
