Three men transporting 40 bags of a substance suspected to be Indian hemp from Edo to Lagos have been held by the police in Ogun.
According to Ogun State police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, the suspects were arrested along Benin/Shagamu expressway on August 8, following an intelligence report received by the Command that the men usually carry hard drugs such as nicotine, Indian hemp as well as dangerous weapons from Edo State en-route Ogun to Lagos State.
He said, “On the strength of the report, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu, directed the officer-in-charge FSARS, SP Uba Adams, to go after the suspects.
“In compliance with the CP’s directive, the operatives of the FSARS embarked on a technical based investigation and profiling of the suspects which enabled them to intercept them on a truck with registration number KPP 339 XD. On searching the vehicle, 40 bags of weeds suspected to be marijuana was recovered and the suspects were promptly arrested.”
Oyeyemi identified the suspects as 39-year-old Frank Osai, Elvis Okuse, 25, and Kelvin Ogagaoghene, 24.
On interrogation, they allegedly confessed that the bags of weeds were meant to be delivered to a customer who they simply identified as Uche in Lagos.
Meanwhile, CP Iliyasu has ordered a full-scale investigation into the activities of the arrested suspects as well as their sponsors.
