Ogun Police Kill Two Kidnappers, Recover AK-47 After Rescue of Okun Owa Prince

Operatives of the Ogun State Police Command have neutralised two suspected kidnappers and recovered an AK-47 rifle during a follow-up operation after successfully securing the release of the abducted Prince of Okun Owa, Prince Idris, in a major breakthrough against kidnapping in the state.

The operation, carried out by the Command’s Anti-Kidnapping Unit, also led to the recovery of an empty AK-47 magazine, two mobile phones, a bag suspected to have been used to collect ransom, and other incriminating exhibits believed to be linked to the criminal gang.
Prince Idris was abducted on June 30, 2026, at about 7:30 p.m. after armed men reportedly stormed his residence in Okun Owa and whisked him away.

Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, ordered the immediate deployment of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and other tactical teams to rescue the victim and track down the abductors.

Police said sustained intelligence gathering, coordinated surveillance, and relentless operational pressure forced the kidnappers to abandon their captive, leading to the prince’s safe release on July 3 without injury.

Rather than ending the operation with the victim’s rescue, detectives intensified efforts to hunt down the gang.

Acting on fresh intelligence, the operatives traced the suspects to the Agoro/Imodi axis, where the kidnappers allegedly opened fire on the police team upon sighting them.

The operatives returned fire in a fierce gun battle, killing two members of the gang, while other suspects reportedly escaped into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.

A search of the deceased suspects yielded one AK-47 rifle, an empty magazine, two mobile phones, a suspected ransom bag, and other items believed to have been used during the criminal operation.

The bodies of the slain suspects have been deposited in a government morgue for autopsy, while police said a manhunt is underway to arrest the fleeing gang members and recover additional weapons and exhibits.

Commending the officers involved, Commissioner of Police Bode Ojajuni praised the courage, professionalism, and tactical efficiency of the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and supporting teams.

He reiterated the Command’s resolve to dismantle kidnapping syndicates and other violent criminal networks operating across Ogun State.

The police commissioner also appealed to residents to remain security-conscious and continue providing credible intelligence to aid ongoing operations, assuring the public that the Command would sustain intelligence-driven policing to safeguard lives and property throughout the state.
