Detectives in Ogun have foiled a daring truck hijacking operation in the Ijebu Imushin area of the state, recovering a stolen DAF truck and a wooden-fabricated rifle wrapped in black tape allegedly used by the fleeing suspects to terrorise their victim.
The incident unfolded in the early hours of Wednesday after a truck driver transporting motor spare parts raised the alarm that armed hoodlums had intercepted him at Oke-Ado in Ijebu North Local Government Area and forcefully seized his vehicle.
Police sources said operatives attached to the Ijebu Imushin Division, working alongside highway patrol teams, swiftly launched a coordinated response immediately the distress call was received.
The rapid deployment reportedly put pressure on the suspects, forcing them to abandon the truck and flee into the surrounding area before they could escape with the vehicle and its cargo.
The driver, who sustained minor injury to his right ankle during the attack, was treated promptly by the police team after the recovery operation.
But the biggest shock came during a search of the recovered truck.
Detectives discovered what was described as a wooden-fabricated rifle carefully wrapped with black tape, apparently designed to resemble a real firearm and intimidate unsuspecting victims during the operation.
The strange discovery has since sparked reactions among residents and security observers, with many describing it as a crude but dangerous tactic increasingly deployed by desperate criminals to instill fear.

Police authorities said efforts were ongoing to track down the fleeing suspects and bring them to justice.
Commending the operatives for their swift action, the Ogun State Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism and rapid response that led to the recovery of the truck and the disruption of the hijack attempt.
He reassured residents and motorists that the Command remains committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
The police also urged members of the public to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements and criminal activities through the Command’s emergency lines.
