In a major breakthrough, the Ogun State Police Command has dismantled a notorious gang responsible for a year-long spree of kidnapping, murder, and armed robbery that terrorized the Ijebu-Igbo region.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) Abiodun Alamutu, announced yesterday that all members of the seven-man gang, who were involved in multiple heinous crimes, have been apprehended and they have made confessional statements.
According to Alamutu, the gang, led by one Chukwuma Bartholomew and Igwe Monday, began their rampage on July 28, 2023, when they invaded homes, robbed residents, and carried out cold-blooded murders. Their victims included a young 17-year-old girl, Elizabeth Adeniran, and several others who were kidnapped, held for ransom, and brutally murdered despite ransom payments.
The Commissioner told reporters that one of the most shocking incidents occurred on February 27, 2024, when the gang abducted Adedayo Kehinde Temitayo, recorded a ransom video at gunpoint, and left him for dead in a well. Miraculously, Temitayo crawled out and escaped, leading to a series of investigations that culminated in the capture of the suspects.
The police also recovered significant evidence, including a mobile phone used to reset a victim’s social media account after her kidnapping, further tying the gang to their crimes.
This victory by the Ogun State Police Command marks the end of a terror campaign that had left the Ijebu-Igbo community in fear. The arrested suspects will face prosecution, bringing some measure of justice to the families of their victims.
