The Ogun State Police Command has intensified enforcement against vehicles operating with illegal number plates, misuse of dealer (temporary) plates, and unauthorised use of sirens and amber lights across the state.

The Command said the operation, driven by credible intelligence, “is aimed at safeguarding lives, preventing crime and enhancing public safety in Ogun”.

According to the police, intelligence-led checks have commenced on vehicles bearing fake, altered, covered, invalid or improperly affixed number plates, as well as those unlawfully using dealer plates.

The Command warned that such vehicles are often exploited by criminals to facilitate unlawful activities, posing serious threats to public safety.

It stated that offenders are being identified, arrested and prosecuted in line with extant laws, adding that the enforcement effort is also designed to proactively disrupt criminal activities while promoting road safety.

To ensure professional conduct and lawful enforcement, specialised units including the Motor Traffic Department, Monitoring Unit and X-Squad have been deployed for operational oversight.

The police said Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers were also supervising the exercise within their jurisdictions to guarantee fairness, transparency and strict compliance with approved operational guidelines.

The Commissioner of Police urged residents to cooperate with officers, comply with traffic and safety regulations, avoid patronising suspicious vehicles, and use only recognised motor parks and designated pick-up points.

The Command reassured the public that the enforcement is targeted at preventing crime, maintaining public order and protecting lives, while upholding the rights and dignity of all road users.

Members of the public were encouraged to report suspicious activities or security concerns through the Ogun State Police Command emergency lines: Gateway Shield (General Complaints Line – Toll Free): 0800 000 9111; Emergency Numbers: 0906 283 7609, 0912 014 1706, 0915 102 7369, and 0708 497 2994.

The statement was signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Command, DSP Oluseyi B. Babaseyi, and dated January 21, 2026.
