The police in Ogun have charged six suspects to court for allegedly causing chaos during the February 11 Presidential Campaign of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state.
According to reports, some party supporters threw objects at the podium as President Muhammadu Buhari was presenting the APC gubernatorial candidate, Mr Dapo Abiodun at the event.
The Commissioner of Police (CP) Ahmed Iliyasu told NewsmakersNG in a statement that any act of that nature under any guise would not be tolerated.
The suspects dragged to the Chief Magistrate Court II, Isabo, in Abeokuta,
were identified as Olaoye Tunde, 43; Bashiru Alli, 40; Ayoola Muyiwa, 50; Yakubu Wahab, 28; Opeyemi Omiyefa, 31, and Akeem Biliaminu, 38.
The CP’s statement signed by the state police spokesman, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, says: “The Ogun State Police Command wish to commend the good people of Ogun State for conducting themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner during the just concluded Presidential and National Assembly elections which made the conduct of the elections a rancour-free one.
“The peaceful conduct of the elections further shows the high level of political maturity tolerance and enlightenment on the part of the good people of the Gateway State.

“Since another round of campaign has commenced, the Command hereby appeal to the actors in the field of Politics to play the game in accordance with the laid down rules and regulation as any act of violence, thuggery and hooliganism will not be tolerated.
“The ugly incident of Monday 11th of February 2019 during the APC Presidential campaign has been viewed with all seriousness, as any act of that nature under any guise will not be tolerated.
“For the information of general public, six amongst the hoodlums namely:- OLAOYE TUNDE ‘M’ 43, BASHIRU ALLI ‘M’ 40YRS, AYOOLA MUYIWA ’50’, YAKUBU WAHAB ‘M’ 28, OPEYEMI OMIYEFA ‘M’ 31YRS AND AKEEM BILIAMINU ‘M’ AGED 38 who partook in that incident have since been arrested and were currently being prosecuted at Chief Magistrate Court II Isabo Abeokuta.
“Therefore, the Command is using this opportunity to warn anybody who might have the intention of fomenting any form of trouble to stay clear from Ogun State as such person or group will be decisively dealt with according to the law of the land.”
