The police in Ogun State have dismantled a suspected illegal “baby factory” in Mowe, rescuing two heavily pregnant women and four children while arresting six suspects allegedly linked to human trafficking, child trading and illegal adoption activities.
The Ogun State Police Command said the intelligence-led operation was carried out at about 8 a.m. on Monday, August 24, 2026, when operatives of the Mowe Division stormed a property on Toluwalase Street, Abaren Village, via Gbarinmole, in the Mowe area of the state.
Police identified the six arrested suspects as Florence Glory Ogbona, 58; Magdalene Julius, 63; Chidike Egwuonwu, 40; Onyechu Chidike, 35; Stephen Ogbona, 39; and an attending nurse, Oseni Kusamotu Idaya.
According to the Command, preliminary investigations indicated that the facility had allegedly been used over time for human trafficking and illegal adoption activities.
Two pregnant women — Ilesanmi Foluke, 23, who is seven months pregnant, and Ejekwa Melody, 20, who is eight months pregnant — were rescued during the raid.
Four children, comprising two boys and two girls, were also recovered from the premises.
The investigation, however, took a disturbing turn when follow-up intelligence led detectives to a hospital in the Mowe axis, where another alleged victim, 26-year-old Blessing Bright Effiong, was receiving medical treatment after giving birth to a baby boy on August 20.
Police said the newborn could not be accounted for when officers arrived at the hospital, prompting the arrest of the attending nurse as investigators intensified efforts to locate the missing infant.
The Command said the case was being transferred to the State Criminal Investigations Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation to establish the full scope of the alleged syndicate, trace the missing newborn and identify other persons who may be connected with its activities.
The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended officers of the Mowe Division for what he described as their operational efficiency and prompt response.
Ojajuni reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to combating human trafficking, child trading and other crimes across the state, urging residents to provide timely and credible information about suspicious activities.
“The Command will sustain intelligence-led policing to ensure the safety and protection of all citizens,” the police said.
