The police in Ogun State have recorded a string of major operational breakthroughs, arresting four suspects and recovering firearms and ammunition in a series of intelligence-driven operations across Mowe, Sagamu, and Odeda.
The coordinated crackdown, carried out between April 14 and April 18, 2026, underscores renewed police momentum against cultism, illegal arms possession, and violent crime in the state.
In Mowe, officers acting on credible intelligence swooped on a suspected cultist identified as Opeyemi Anuoluwapo, 36, who was reportedly loitering under suspicious circumstances at a bus stop. A search of the suspect led to the recovery of a locally made pistol, an expended cartridge, and charms concealed in his bag. Police sources said the suspect confessed to membership of the Eiye Confraternity during interrogation.
The Sagamu axis witnessed two separate interceptions by the Quick Response Squad (QRS) along the Sagamu/Ogijo Road. In the first operation, officers on stop-and-search duty arrested 30-year-old Asaye Ajibola, who was found riding a Bajaj motorcycle with a locally made firearm loaded with nine cartridges.
Barely 24 hours later, another QRS team intercepted a Honda motorcycle rider, Adedeji Olufemi, 49, at the same corridor. He was discovered in possession of a locally fabricated double-barrel gun with eight cartridges. Both suspects reportedly failed to provide credible explanations for the weapons and were taken into custody.
In a separate incident in Osiele, Odeda Local Government Area, police responded to a shooting involving a local vigilante member, Mutiu Sadiku. Preliminary findings indicate that the firearm was accidentally discharged while he was returning from the farm, injuring three persons. The suspect has since been arrested, while the weapon used was recovered in a joint effort with the Amotekun Corps. The victims are currently receiving treatment and are said to be in stable condition.
All four suspects have been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCIID), Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation and possible prosecution.
Commending the operations, the Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the professionalism and swift response of the officers, reaffirming the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-led policing.
He also urged residents to remain vigilant and support security agencies by reporting suspicious movements, stressing that community cooperation remains critical in the fight against crime.
The latest arrests highlight an intensifying clampdown on illegal arms circulation in Ogun State, as security agencies tighten the noose on criminal networks operating within its corridors.
