The police in Ogun have arrested seven suspects and recovered a stolen Toyota Venza, three firearms, 17 stolen mobile phones, an operational vehicle allegedly used by a one-chance robbery syndicate, an HP EliteBook laptop and ₦1.1 million in a series of intelligence-led operations across the state.
The coordinated operations, carried out by operatives attached to the Ilaro Area Command and the Ibafo, Mowe, Adatan and Ode-Remo Divisions, targeted armed robbery, one-chance robbery, cultism, illegal possession of firearms and fraud.
The suspects arrested are Bola Salau, 42; Segun Balogun, 25; Emmanuel Friday; Tunde Abioye; Ankpa James; Tunde Ogunseye, 41; and Owodunni Seun, 36.
Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, said the operations underscored the Command’s commitment to intelligence-led policing, proactive crime prevention and sustained pressure on criminal elements across Ogun State.
According to the police, officers attached to the Ilaro Area Command intercepted a blue Toyota Venza during a routine stop-and-search operation along the Oja-Odan/Ilaro Road. The two occupants, Bola Salau and Segun Balogun, allegedly failed to give a satisfactory account of how they came into possession of the vehicle.
A search of the vehicle led to the recovery of its original registration documents concealed beneath the carpet. Investigators later traced the owner in Ede, Osun State, who confirmed that the vehicle had been stolen during a violent armed robbery at his residence on June 23, 2026.
In another operation, detectives attached to the Ibafo Division dismantled a suspected one-chance robbery syndicate following a complaint by a woman who reported that she was robbed of her Samsung A16 mobile phone valued at ₦295,000 and ₦120,000 cash.
Acting on intelligence, police tracked the suspects to a hotel in Magboro where Emmanuel Friday and Tunde Abioye were arrested. A Toyota Camry allegedly used by the syndicate was also recovered, while the victim reportedly identified the suspects.
At the Mowe Division, detectives arrested Ankpa James over an alleged travel scam after a 21-year-old complainant accused him of collecting ₦1.276 million under the pretext of facilitating a trip to Luxembourg.
The suspect was arrested after a distress alert through the Command’s Gateway Shield emergency platform. Police said he admitted to the offence during interrogation, while ₦1.1 million was recovered and returned to the complainant on bond. He is expected to be prosecuted after investigations.
The Adatan Division also recorded a breakthrough after operatives arrested suspected cultist Tunde Ogunseye during a joint operation with other security agencies.
Police said the suspect allegedly attempted to attack officers with a locally fabricated pistol but was subdued. A search of his residence reportedly led to the recovery of another locally fabricated pistol. Investigators further alleged that he is a member of the Eiye Confraternity and is involved in the sale of illicit drugs. He has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation.
Meanwhile, operatives of the Ode-Remo Division reportedly foiled an armed robbery targeting students at Itun-Raye, Ode-Remo, following a distress call.
According to the Command, the robbers fled into a nearby bush on sighting the police patrol team and local vigilantes. Although the suspects escaped, allegedly with gunshot injuries, they abandoned several items.
Recovered exhibits included a locally made Dane gun, two expended cartridges, an HP EliteBook laptop, 17 mobile phones comprising nine iPhones, seven Samsung Android phones and one Itel phone, three power banks, a rechargeable torch and other personal belongings.
Police later arrested Owodunni Seun after he was found loitering around the crime scene. Investigators described him as a habitual offender previously convicted for receiving stolen property. He is assisting with ongoing investigations.
Ojajuni commended the professionalism and bravery of the officers involved in the operations and reaffirmed the Command’s resolve to sustain intelligence-driven policing and collaboration with other security agencies.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely and credible information that would assist the police in preventing crime and apprehending offenders, while assuring that efforts were ongoing to arrest fleeing suspects linked to the various cases.
