After enduring sexual abuse from her sister’s husband who allegedly threatened to kill her if she talks, a 13-year-old girl in Ogun State has finally found her voice.
The girl, who will not be named, was encouraged to speak out while participating in an enlightenment talk with students Of Bannis College, at Ijoko-Ota area of the state.
Ogun State police spokesman, SP Abimbola Oyeyemi, told Newsmakersng that after the enlightenment talk organised by one Peju Osoba, the Coordinator of an Abeokuta based child protection network, the girl called one of the organisers to a corner and confessed to her that the elder sister’s husband had been having sex with her under duress, threatening to kill her if she let on.
Oyeyemi identified the suspect as a 35-year-old Kingsley Chigbo.
He said, “The incident was reported to the police at Sango-Ota divisional headquarters. Upon the report, the DPO, SP Akinsola Ogunwale, led detectives to the suspect’s house at 38 Asikolaye Street Gas-line, in Ijoko-Ota, where the suspect was promptly arrested.
“When confronted by the girl, he admitted committing the crime. Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ahmed Iliyasu has ordered the immediate transfer of the suspect to the anti-human trafficking and child labour section of the State Criminal Investigations and Intelligence Department for further investigation.”
