The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for six months following allegations of public misconduct that sparked widespread criticism.
The suspension was announced as the state government and the Nigeria Police Force intensify efforts to ensure justice is served.
The Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, confirmed via his X handle that the embattled monarch had been invited and interrogated by the police.
He stated, “The Oba has been invited and interrogated today by the command. The matter is being looked into for justice to prevail. Nobody can claim to be controlling the NPF. Justice must be served by all means.”
The Ogun State Government emphasised that the suspension aims to preserve the dignity of traditional institutions and uphold the sanctity of royal positions.
According to a statement from the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, the suspension follows an investigation into the monarch’s “uncivil conduct,” which was widely circulated on social media.
During the interrogation by the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, both the monarch and his alleged victim were heard, and the state concluded that Oba Ogunjobi’s actions were inconsistent with the decorum expected of a traditional ruler.
Consequently, he has been stripped of the paraphernalia of his office for the duration of the suspension, pending further investigations.
