Ogun Monarch Denies Involvement in Land Grabbing

The Olu of Obafemi, Oba Taofeek Owolabi Kayode, has firmly denied any involvement in land grabbing, emphasizing his commitment to the development of his kingdom as a first-class monarch in Ogun State.

Responding to allegations regarding the illegal acquisition of land in Agboro village, Oba Kayode clarified that the land in question was legally purchased from families in Agboro several years ago.

“When some investors approached me, I called a meeting with all my subjects, village heads, and the media present,” said Oba Kayode. “We discussed the matter, and I offered the land I had already purchased to the investors. Despite having paid for these lands, I instructed the village heads to contact the families again to ensure they would be compensated.”

Oba Kayode emphasized that these steps were taken to foster rapid development in Obafemi, rather than for personal gain. He reiterated his dedication to the welfare of his people in the Ijeun Egba area of the state.

The monarch assured that any misunderstanding regarding the Agboro land matter would be resolved through ongoing discussions with the involved parties. He also addressed allegations of genocide against his people, calling them baseless and fabricated.

“I cannot witch-hunt anyone, nor would I direct security agencies to harass or intimidate my subjects,” Oba Kayode said. “I rule with love and respect for my people, and no one has died or been harassed over land matters in Agboro or its environs. The genocide accusation is a blatant lie.”

Oba Kayode expressed his gratitude to Ogun State Governor Prince Dapo Abiodun for his efforts in maintaining peace and commended the State Assembly for passing the anti-land grabbing law, which he said has brought much-needed sanity to land issues in the state.
