The Ogun State Government has suspended Oba Abdulsemiu Adewale Ogunjobi, the Olorile of Orile-Ifo, for six months following a viral video in which he allegedly supervised the assault of an elderly chief, Mr. Arinola Abraham Love.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State Police Command has intensified its investigation into the incident.

The suspension was announced after an inquiry by the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, which summoned the monarch and his victim for interrogation. The footage, widely condemned by the public, showed the Oba using foul language and threatening to kill and bury the victim without consequences.

In a statement issued on Monday evening, the Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on Information and Strategy, Mr. Kayode Akinmade, confirmed that the monarch had been stripped of the paraphernalia of his office in line with Section 52(1) of the Obas and Chiefs’ Law of Ogun State 2021. The decision, taken in conjunction with the Egba Traditional Council, aims to uphold the dignity of individuals and preserve the sanctity of the revered traditional institution.

The Ogun State Police Command has reiterated its commitment to ensuring justice. Commissioner of Police (CP) Lanre Ogunlowo had earlier ordered a discreet investigation, emphasizing that no one is above the law. Both parties have provided statements at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran, as authorities work toward a resolution.

The state government and police have assured the public of transparency and will provide further updates as the investigation progresses.
