The leadership of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) Good Women Choir in Ibadan has dismissed widespread rumours claiming that veteran gospel singer and choir leader, Deborah Adebola Fasoyin, popularly known as Mama Fasoyin, has died.

In an official statement shared on the choir’s Facebook page, the group described the reports as false and urged the public to disregard them.

“Recently, a piece of false news has been circulating about the passing of Deborah Adebola Fasoyin, fondly known as Mama Fasoyin, the respected leader of C.A.C. Good Women Choir Ibadan,” the statement read.

“We want to clearly state that this news is completely FAKE and untrue. Mama Fasoyin is alive, and we give all the glory to God for His mercy, protection, and sustaining grace over her life and ministry.”

The choir further warned against spreading unverified information, particularly concerning religious figures.

Quoting the Bible, the statement said: “The Bible clearly says in Psalm 105:15, ‘Do not touch my anointed ones; do my prophets no harm.’ As believers, we understand that spreading false information about God’s servants or wishing harm upon them is a serious matter before God.”

The group added that it had chosen to leave those responsible for the rumour to divine judgement.

“We leave the originators of this false report in God’s hands, trusting Him as the righteous judge,” the choir said, while urging members of the public to ignore and stop sharing the misinformation.

Mama Fasoyin is widely known for the popular Yoruba gospel song, Odun Nlo Sopin, which has become a staple at New Year celebrations and thanksgiving services across Nigeria and in diaspora churches.

Through the CAC Good Women Choir Ibadan, she has spent decades shaping gospel music and mentoring younger singers within the church.

Her ministry blends traditional Yoruba praise music with Christian worship, a style that has helped the choir gain national and international recognition.

The clarification about her wellbeing comes only weeks after the choir celebrated her 86th birthday on March 1, describing her life as a testimony to decades of devotion to Christian ministry and gospel music.

In a tribute posted on its platform, the choir wrote: “Celebrate God’s faithfulness as Mama Deborah Adebola Fasoyin marks her 86th birthday today. We give thanks for 86 remarkable years sustained by God’s mercy, grace and unwavering love.”

It continued: “Mama Fasoyin’s life and ministry stand as a testament to steadfast devotion, humble service and enduring impact in gospel music and Christian leadership.”

The choir added that throughout her decades of service, she has remained committed to inspiring generations through worship, discipline and faith.

“Her journey reflects a life anchored in divine grace, proof that God’s calling is sustained by His strength,” the tribute stated.

Amid the spread of the rumour, the choir appealed to the public to verify information before sharing it online.

“We kindly urge everyone to ignore and disregard this misinformation and avoid spreading unverified news,” the statement said.
“Instead, let us continue to support and celebrate the ministry that has blessed countless lives through gospel music and prayer.”

The choir also encouraged admirers and followers to continue sending prayers and birthday wishes to the veteran gospel singer, whom many regard as one of the enduring voices in Nigerian Christian music.
