Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo GCFR, will lead a galaxy of eminent personalities on Saturday, October 2, 2021, to witness the Induction of retired Deputy Inspector General of Police (DIG) Adeleye Oyebade mni, among others, into Owu Kingdom’s Roll of Honour at the grand finale of the 2021 Owu Festival (Odun Omo Olowu), in Ogun State.
Also expected at the grand finale of the 8-day program holding at the Oba Adisa Odeleye Square, Totoro, Abeokuta by 10 a.m., are southwest governors – Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu (Lagos), Engr Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Arakunrin Rotimi Akeredolu (Ondo), Dr. Kayode Fayemi (Ekiti), Mr. Gboyega Oyetola (Osun), as well as the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor Enoch Adeboye.
The honor will be conferred on the recipients by the Olowu of Owu Kingdom, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Olusanya Adegboyega Dosumu FTA, the Olowu Kangunere, Akobi Oodua, Amororo II. It is regarded as one of the highest possible individual recognitions to any Owu Indigene, and it has a rich tradition of highly respected accomplished and notable previous recipients, including Chief Obasanjo and former Governor of Ogun State, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
“In recognition of your invaluable contribution to the growth and development of Owu Kingdom, and as a challenge to be more committed, this year’s Odun Omo Olowu Planning Committee, with the directives of the Olowu in Council, has deemed it fit to honour you with the award of Roll of Honour of Owu Kingdom for the year 2021,” says the organizers in a letter to Oyebade, who is Chairman/CEO, Rontol Ventures Limited, a conglomerate with interests across agriculture, education, manufacturing, and security services.
Besides Human Security, Oyebade is also championing Food Security through his Rontol Foods, a subsidiary of Rontol Ventures Limited, that is offering high quality, healthy, portable, and conveniently ready-to-cook cassava products.
Highlights of the events include the conferment of a chieftaincy title of Yeye Oge of the Owu Kingdom on Yeye Nanafatima Oluwatumininu Martins on October 1, at the Olowu Palace, Oke Ago-Owu, Abeokuta.
According to a statement from the Chairman of the Planning Committee and the Jagunmolu of Owu, Chief Rotimi Olasode Martins, and the Secretary, Chief Johnson Ola Fatoki – the Oganla of Owu Kingdom, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo is the Chief Host of this year’s event.
The ceremonies began on September 26, 2021, with Youth Programmes at Olowu’s Palace, where an event tagged Word Medical was also held on September 27, and Chieftaincy Installation on September 30.
There was also a visit to the townships, including Apomu, Erunmu, Olusomi’s Compound, and Amororo’s Compound on September 28; visitation to Local Government Areas on September 29, with a Jumat Service slated for October 1st at the Owu Central Mosque, and a Thanksgiving on October 3rd at the African Church Cathedral, Ita-Iyalode, Abeokuta, Ogun State.
