Penpushing Media, a platform created to share authentic news, has been celebrated by the wife of former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo.
Speaking as the Chairperson at the 3rd anniversary of Penpushing Lecture at the Marquee Events Centre within the premises of the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Chief (Mrs) Bola Obasanjo endorsed Penpushing Media as a platform for authentic news across the globe. She commended the organization for adding value to journalism, with emphasis on paying attention to social responsibility, which has to do, with addressing the plights of the less privileged and indigents in the society.
“The emergence of Penpushing is a positive welcome development to journalism practice across the globe. The initiator, Dimeji Kayode-Adedeji must also be commended for this initiative. He is a man known to have journalism blood running in his vein, and I am not disappointed in his passion for the noble profession which has made him excel in the chosen career,” she said.
She called on other media organizations to emulate the initiative of Penpushing, in the area of proactive journalism practice. She added that this would go a long way in bringing smiles to the faces of victims at all time.
“I must also say this, that one unique quality about Penpushing is the commitment to authentic news dissemination and the war against fake news. This is laudable. I was part of the maiden and second editions, as well as participating in the 3rd edition, this is a clear testimony that I have to believe and trust in the organization,” Mrs Obasanjo said.
She pointed out that it is also on record that, the medium within its three years of operations is in partnership with a number of reputable media organizations, adding that, this no doubt is a good development and a clear fact that, the partnering organizations are convinced about its competence in the media world.
She said, “I must also acknowledge another feat and innovation of Penpushing, which is highly commendable and this is moving forward in the area of social responsibility, by using the platform to address the plights of the less privileged and indigents, example that comes to mind among others is the case of Sarah Ajayi, 18-year-old blind girl, who lost her two eyes to cataract while in SSS 2 class.
“Penpushing professionally took up her case which attracted a stakeholder on the platform and took over the responsibilities to address her academic challenges. The Penpushing apart from the reportage searched for a school for her, and today, a sponsor on the reputable platform of Penpushing has taken over the sponsorship at School for the blind in Lagos, where reports say that Sarah is doing very well.”
She also referred to how Penpushing brought the plight of Abiodun Soyeri a physically challenged Mass Communication Graduate of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic, Abeokuta, to the public, who over three years after completion of his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) did not get a job.
“I want to use this opportunity to task other media organizations to emulate the initiative of Penpushing, in the area of proactive journalism practice, and this will go a long way to bring smiles to faces of victims at all time,” Mrs Obasanjo added.
She expressed appreciation for the Editorial Board, membership, and team of Penpushing, stressing that their achievements within three years are a testimony to their competence.
She expressed optimism that Penpushing is going places in the media industry because it started on a solid foundation to ease out fake news dissemination.
