Oba Tajudeen Afolabi Elemoro, the Onitedo of Itedo, Oke-Odo Iwerekun, Elemoro Kingdom, has died at the age of 87.
The traditional ruler died in the early hours of Friday during a brief illness, bringing to an end a reign marked by contributions to security, education, healthcare and infrastructure development in his community.
Oba Elemoro, who was widely regarded as a driving force behind the transformation of Elemoro from a largely rural settlement into a growing community, devoted much of his reign to attracting public institutions and essential services to the area.
Among his notable interventions was the donation of four acres of land to the Nigeria Police Force for the establishment of the Elemoro Area J Command, strengthening the security architecture of the area. He also allocated two plots of land to the Elemoro Police Division.
In education, the monarch provided four acres of land for the construction of Elemoro Junior and Senior Secondary School, expanding access to secondary education for children in the community and surrounding areas.
His interventions also extended to healthcare. He allocated four plots of land for the establishment of the Elemoro Health Care Centre, built by the Federal Government to improve access to medical services for residents.
Oba Elemoro also provided land for an electricity substation as part of efforts to improve power supply and support the development of the community.
Throughout his reign, the monarch was known for using the traditional institution as a platform to advance the welfare of his people and facilitate government presence in Elemoro.
His death leaves the community mourning a traditional ruler whose reign was closely associated with its growth and development.
Details of his burial arrangements were yet to be announced at the time of filing this report.
