An operative of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) went berserk in Dutse, the Jigawa State capital, on Friday, killing one person and injuring a police sergeant.
According to eyewitnesses, the incident occurred when some men of the Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) sought the help of NSCDC personnel during a face-off with members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW).
The FRSC officials had attempted to impound some commercial vehicles for failure to install speed limiting device, but were confronted by angry members of the NURTW, who allegedly beat them up and also set fire to their operations vehicle.
Eyewitnesses claimed as soon as the NSCDC officers arrived at the scene, they started beating up everybody around, while one of them also began to shoot indiscriminately.
It was in the process that one unidentified person was killed, while the police sergeant, who attempted to disarm the NSCDC official sustained bullet wounds.
Newsmakers could not get the reaction of officials of any of the security outfits involved in the incident at the time of filing this report.
