A political pressure group from Northern Nigeria has formally requested the intervention of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, in critical infrastructure projects affecting the region. The request was submitted during Mr. Tinubu’s visit to Minna, Niger State, where he attended an Iftar gathering with youths on Wednesday.

The group, led by Yahaya Mohammed Usman, urged Mr. Tinubu to leverage his influence in addressing pressing developmental concerns, including the revitalization of Baro Port, the expansion of the Federal University of Technology Minna (FUT Minna), and the rehabilitation of deplorable federal roads across the state.

Despite acknowledging that Mr. Tinubu does not hold any public office, Mr. Usman emphasized his ability to lobby for the execution of their demands.

“We appreciate that you do not hold any public office, yet no one can say you do not have influence. It is on this strong bedrock of influence that we kindly request your intervention in these critical areas,” Usman stated.

Key Requests:

  1. Baro Port Revamp – The group lamented that despite being commissioned, the port remains non-operational, hindering economic growth in the region.
  2. FUT Minna Expansion – They called for the university to offer medical courses, law, and social sciences, along with the establishment of a teaching hospital and cancer center, similar to FUT Owerri and FUT Yola.
  3. Federal Road Rehabilitation – The group highlighted the poor state of major roads, including Lambata-Lapai-Bida Road, which recently claimed 12 lives, and the impassable Tegina-Makera-Mokwa Road.
  4. Youth Representation in Government – The group requested the appointment of at least one presidential aide from Niger State to ensure youth inclusion in governance.

Expressing gratitude to President Bola Tinubu, the group reaffirmed their commitment to national progress while urging swift action on their requests to boost development in Northern Nigeria.
